Meet Astoria:

In this segment of Meet Astoria, we spoke with Toni from the upper Ditmars area. She has been living in Astoria her entire life. Pictured here playing with her husky and dog-sitting a family member’s French bulldog, it’s no doubt she’s a strong supporter of the proposed dog park in Astoria Park.

Eat Your Way to Better Health

It seems like every week there is a new product claiming to promise nutrition and improve your health. However, there are some foods you likely already have on hand that can improve your diet quality and support clean-eating efforts.

Meet Astoria

Astoria has a veritable font of restaurants, bars and other places to grab a cold one and kick back with friends. This month, we at Queens Scene went out to find and talk to the members of our community who make up the tapestry of our local bars and pubs. We met Nati Avni Singer, a playwright, at local pub staple, Gleason’s. QS: Hi! How are you? Nati: Good, you? QS: Well, thanks.

Meet Astoria

Outside of Speed Wash Laundry Center here in Astoria, we bumped into one of our lovely neighbors, Stephanie Couch – who happened to be doing laundry too.  It was very frigid and cold outside, so we chatted it up briefly, but we got to know this artist/teacher who loves to cook, but doing laundry, not so much.

Meet Astoria

We took a trip to Queens Library’s Broadway branch, located at 40-20 Broadway in Astoria. Like always, we love getting to know our friendly neighbors. I had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Yu, one of our newest neighbors. He informed me he just moved to Astoria last week to pursue his career.

Keeping Those New Year Fitness Goals

After New Year’s Day, it seems like a resolution on everyone’s mind is to get healthy for the upcoming spring and summer months. But delivering on those goals is easier said than done – fitness doesn’t happen overnight, and is hardly ever completed by one round of pushups and a yoga class or two.

Where To Find Fitness

It’s been a couple of weeks since New Year’s Day resolutions to treat ourselves better in 2017. That resolve might have already started waning, but fear not, we have some great ways to buck up and get trim. It can be hard at first to find time for working out or eating new foods, but as you do it, the process becomes routine.

Meet Astoria

In the heart of Astoria, we decided to stop by Gian Piero’s Bakery located at 44-17 30th Ave, Astoria, to pick up a sweet treat and a cup of hot coffee. On the way there we met up with ourone Josephof neighbors, Jen Benzing. A pre-school teacher who loves to spend quality time with her family, especially in her hometown of Astoria.

Meet Astoria

As we progress from summer to fall, we can’t help but reflect on how we spend each season that passes. No matter what the weather, we can depend on Astoria Park to warm our hearts or let us play in the snow – but there are other facets of Astoria that are even more dependable – and those are the people that inhabit it.
