January 2019 is a month to get used to the cold. But with Real Estate so hot in our neighborhood – the January Queens Scene is our real estate issue – even a snowman would melt. Valentine’s Day, also known as St. Valentine’s Day on February 14, is a day for us to express our appreciation to our loved ones with gifts and affection. The holiday has its origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which celebrates the coming of spring and pairing of men and women by lottery.

Museum of the Moving Image To Celebrate Black History Month

In February 2019, Museum of the Moving Image will celebrate Black History Month with a film screening every Friday during the month, programmed by Warrington Hudlin in his dual capacity as vice chairman of the museum and president of the Black Filmmaker Foundation.

Hellenic Film Society USA Presents Maria by Callas

The Hellenic Film Society USA announced screenings of Maria by Callas, the first feature film to tell the life story of the legendary Greek American opera singer, entirely in her own words. 

Eileen Coyne

Eileen Coyne’s paintings will be featured in a new installation at QED (27-16 23rd Avenue, Astoria), with an opening celebration there on Tuesday, January 15 from 6-8 pm. Coyne’s work will remain on view at QED and for sale through June 2019. RSVPs for the opening are encouraged. Niki Taheri

Niki Taheri of Long Island is currently a senior studying Mechatronics Engineering at Vaughn College (East Elmhurst) and is currently the president of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) – Vaughn Chapter, and secretary of the Robotics Team. Mechatronics is a combination of mechanical, electrical, and computer science engineering.
