Wordsmiths Put Words On Things

Leah is an actor, most recently seen in NYC in the title role of Medea with Titan Theatre company at Queens Theatre in Flushing. Beth is a freelance director who also co-founded Three Day Hangover, the company behind the boozy, Off-Broadway Drunkle Vanya and creators of the long-running hit Drunk Shakespeare.

How did these theater people get into designing shirts? Two reasons: One, they are self-professed artist-nerd-bosses who celebrate words, writers and the power of a great turn of phrase. And two, when searching and not finding apparel that fit right, was poorly made, and possessed of stodgy designs that made them feel frumpy, they decided to come up with their own designs for shirts and gifts that “made their hearts sing” – and Words on Things was born!

Their first collection features quips and quotes from Shakespeare (#dreamboat). All their products use bold, modern designs that will pop in your wardrobe or home. Made only with high quality materials, the shirts feel great on your skin.

They believe great writing and all art is for everyone and it doesn’t need to be boring or stiff. Leah and Beth hope their Words on Things will provide comfy, cool, fun shout-outs to great words that you can enjoy at any time.

Among the many items for sale are pillows, mugs, onesies and of course their popular T-shirts and tank tops for women, men and kids. Top sellers are the “She is Fierce” adult shirts and toddler onesies. Hot tip when ordering any of their t-shirts specifically is to size up. Go up one size for a regular fit; go up two sizes for a relaxed fit. If you are usually a small in a slim fit tee, order a medium.

When looking toward the future Leah can top-secretly tell us that their next collection will feature Words by Women. They also are planning to screen-print limited edition shirts and have already spent time printing at the fantastic and recently opened Alterwork Studios, located 30-09 35th Avenue in Astoria.
