Queens County Farm Museum

Photos Melissa Mennona Photos Melissa Mennona Fall is arriving and Halloween is just around the corner. Fun for children and adults alike can be had at the Queens County Farm Museum located at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, so plan a trip there.

Queens County Farm Museum history dates back to 1697. It occupies New York City’s largest remaining undisturbed farmland. If you want to “leave the city” but not actually go far, Queens County Farm is a tranquil environment.

The farm includes a historic farm building, greenhouse, livestock, farm vehicles and planting fields including an orchard and herb garden. General admission is free except during public events.

The kick off to the fall 2018 season at Queens County Farm starts October 6. Visit and celebrate the season at the farm. Every weekend in October there are attractions, events and things to do. Explore the farm grounds and buy a variety of Hudson Valley apples, fresh cider, doughnuts and apple pie. (There is no apple picking at Queens Farm.)

Fun activities include the Amazing Maize Maze that just started, running through October 27. Enjoy getting lost in a three-acre interactive corn maze. To prepare for the challenge it begins with a “stalk talk”; you will look for clues and solve puzzles to make your way out of the maze. Have fun getting lost! There is also a Maze by Moonlight on Saturday, October 13 & 20 when you can navigate the Amazing Maize Maze by the night sky. Be sure to bring a flashlight!

If you want to get in the Halloween spirit, check out the Haunted House on Saturday October 27 for a ghoulish scare.

Perfect for some family time, the Children’s Fall Festival will be held on October 28. Dress up the kiddies in costumes, dance to the live country western music, take in a hayride, enjoy pony rides and their seasonal petting zoo. Don’t forget to have your camera ready; cartoon character look-alikes will be on hand.

Last but not least, the Pumpkin Patch will be open starting weekends October 6-27. Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and wander through the Patch and pick out the perfect pumpkins to take home.
