8th Annual LIC Arts Open

For eight years Long Island City has been host to what has become the largest arts festival in Queens, the LIC Arts Open. Each year the LIC artistic community comes together for an expansive, accessible, and fabulous celebration of their work.

LIC Arts Open’s central focus is always on the visual arts, but they make sure to keep spaces open for performances. This year they have a very exciting collection of individual performers and music groups to add to the ever-growing lineup:

The kick-off concert features new string quartets from the Queens College New Music Group on May 16, 8 pm at The Secret Theatre (44-02 23rd St., LIC). The eighth Annual Launch Party will include performances from Karesia Batan’s SITE MOVES on May 16, 7-10 pm at the Plaxall Gallery (5-25 46th Ave., LIC). Throughout the festival there will be 15 concerts and events featuring live music.

The Breakroom @ The Factory (30-30 47th Ave.) features, on May 17 at 7 pm., Lauren Elder, Broadway performer and singer-songwriter, who will open the evening with music from her recent album. At 8 pm she will be followed by Pat Irwin and Brian Cavanaugh-Strong, both distinguished composers and musicians, who will be performing Music for Electric Guitar and Piano.

The Plastique Trois Reception will have a rare performance from SUSS, an ambient country band, at the Anable Basin Event Space (4-40 44th Dr.) May 18, 7-11 pm.

Musical Make-em Ups will be appearing for their 8th year at LIC Arts Open with a new family musical improv extravaganza at The Plaxall Gallery on May 19th at 3pm.

The Really HUGE Closing Party, will be entertained with Latin dance party music from Niko Andres & LaMar NYC feat. Matt Geraghty. This event will be held at 43-01 21st St., 1A from 6:30-10 pm.
