Spring Has Sprung

Spring (better late than never!)

On The Cover

“What’s On the Cover of the Queens SceneApril 2018??” That was the question that I asked myself repeatedly. My initial plan for the photography and artwork on the front cover was to have a photo of an umbrella with many flowers underneath it—a photographic representation of the expression, “April showers bring May flowers.” However, my modest goal of a picture being worth at least five words was not happening—I wanted to get flowers that would look festive and alive, yet real. (Umbrellas unfortunately are not a rare sight lately, as it has been either raining or snowing constantly.) In my office, Melissa Cipolla heard me whining and wailing about the quandary I was in. She suggested that I use a photo that she had taken for her own use, of a blooming tree on 44th Street in Astoria. This would be a great portrayal of a beautiful block in our beautiful neighborhood, with a beautiful tree growing and blooming—eliminating all the problems of trying to set up a fake photo shoot! We took Melissa’s suggestion and her photo wound up being on the front cover of this month’s April 2018 Queens Scene. Thanks, Melissa! If you’d like to try your hand at this task, we would be more than happy to entertain your ideas and photos.
