Health and Fitness

Denizens of the Iron Lion Denizens of the Iron Lion March is here, which means spring is right around the corner. Whether you hibernated all winter, like a lot of us do, and put on some extra pounds or are just looking to tone up, you should check out Iron Lion located at 22-77 38th Street.

According to Iron Lion, The Iron Lion Way is not just about an ordinary workout for today, but a plan for lifelong health. Open daily, Iron Lion’s training is based on strengthening your body through precise movement progressions. Iron Lion wants to find out about your fitness journey and goals to devise a plan to get you your best results.

Chris Carlsen is the founder of Iron Lion. He is a former Division 1 athlete, and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He holds specialized certifications in fitness therapy, functional range. He has also competed in the complete Olympic lifting workshop. Although Chris is trained as an athlete he realizes many of his clients are not at the same level. In order to help his clients reach their individual goals he needed to educate himself in the area of physical assessment. Chris discovered Gray Cook and his functional movement screening: a system for evaluating one’s flexibility and mobility. As opposed to thinking about training the body for specific muscle groups, Iron Lion’s movement programming is based on training the body as a whole entity. “Strengthening and counter-acting joint actions will clean up movement issues that cause back pain, poor posture, knee and shoulder pain, but above all, produce highly successful, physically fit individuals. You will move better, lift more weight, and most importantly, get in the greatest shape of your life,” Chris assures.

Iron Lion clients with their kettlebells. Iron Lion clients with their kettlebells. Not your typical gym, Iron Lion “has a sense of community and builds relationships with its clients. It’s a huge responsibility when someone entrusts a trainer with his or her body. With that in mind, we need to always be on point in our quest to get better every day. Some of that includes kettle bell, speed, locomotion, assessment, motor learning, pre/post natal, exercise science, Olympic lifting and strength.

Monitored breathing and motion. Monitored breathing and motion. “You can try Iron Lion for 30 days and see if it’s the right place for you. Iron Lion wants you to make an informed decision about your health and performance. Each exercise, sport, and workout you receive is one that has been used by the best athletes, physical therapists and coaches in the world,” says Carlsen.

You can have one-on-one, semi-private, personal, and team programs, which sometimes is an added bonus as people gain motivation from their peers. Their most sought-after service is semi-private training, which provides you with the attention and programming and at an affordable rate.
