HOME Resto-Lounge

There’s no place like “Home”…. Home Resto-Lounge that is.

Opened just one month ago on bustling Steinway Street, this multi-floor venue features a comfortable, well-appointed dining room, a lounge upstairs, and a knock-out menu that will make you come “home” again and again.

This decidedly Mediterranean restaurant has Greek and Italian roots with a modern twist at the hands of Executive Chef Thomas Nasti. Chef Thomas makes everything from scratch, from the bread to the hummus, to all the sauces and purees that garnish his dishes. Only the finest quality meat, fish, poultry and vegetables arrive in his kitchen, and he adds the main ingredient: passion. The open-air façade allows you to see the beautiful interior which features wood plank walls and exposed brick, leather banquettes, tables, and high-top tables for casual dining. There’s a raised area in the rear of the dining room for intimate gatherings and lounging all night. The upstairs has a separate lounge open until 4am for late night mixing and I hear the DJ. keeps the crowd entertained. This is the perfect place for a private party so think about hosting your next birthday or family affair at Home Resto-Lounge, or your office holiday party, which is just around the corner.

Marino, the General Manager is also the Master mixer of cocktails and his Mojitos are marvelous, served in an oversized glass full of fresh lime, mint, and chopped fruit including mango, peach, pineapple, and mango. The lemon drop martini and peach nectar are other specialty cocktails and the beer and wine selection is thoughtful and reasonably priced.

Chef Thomas presented us with some of his best starters which included the very impressive Chesapeake Bay crab cake. There was much more crab than cake in these two delicate crab cakes, made with lump crab meat and perfect seasoning, served with his own cole slaw and creamy basil remoulade sauce ($15). With two to an order, these crab cakes are perfect to share. The same is true for the tender, juicy octopus, grilled and perfectly charred, served with house made tzatziki sauce ($16). Grilled jumbo shrimp or wild scallops are also great seafood starters as they are expertly prepared with lemon-saffron sauce, and beautifully presented. For a taste of Greece, the pan-fried Saganaki is made with thick slices of kefalograviera cheese, drizzled with honey-balsamic reduction. Baked feta cheese is served with cherry tomatoes, olives, scallions and dill for a light, Mediterranean treat. Italy gets a nod with the chef’s authentic meatballs, served with marinara sauce and Parmigiano flakes.

We cleansed our palates with a refreshing salad of roasted beets, baby arugula, and goat cheese, sprinkled with honey roasted walnuts. Next came the main course, and a favorite of the chef; pan seared Grouper, so light and flaky, served with a cauliflower mushroom ragout that was outrageously delicious, The fish was drizzled with a beurre blanc sauce that complimented the tenderness of the fresh fish. Wild Atlantic salmon is pan seared and served with baby kale and lemon olive oil sauce. The Branzino is simply grilled and served fileted with sautéed spinach and baked cherry tomatoes. It’s important to note that all the fish served at Home Resto-Lounge is sourced wild from nature, never from a farm, and you can taste in the depth of its flavor and texture.

Home Resto-Lounge does a great job with meat also, where the braised lamb shank has slow-cooked for hours, served in its own jus, with orzo mushroom ragout. Colorado rack of lamb and Prime New York strip steak are fabulous choices too, cooked to your liking. Roasted chicken is marinated with apple cider and honey for the perfect Fall comfort dish. Gosh, you can even get a top notch chicken or lamb souvlaki here, elegantly served with vegetable rice. Lobster pasta, seafood orzo, and pappardelle Bolognese offer some favorites from Italy and each dish is prepared on the spot and served steaming hot.

I’ll point out here that the service at Home is excellent, delivered by a well-dressed and handsome staff! They really make you feel at home. Indulge in one of the chef’s dessert creations such as baklava cheesecake, Nutella cheesecake, classic “ekmek” pastry, tres leches cake, or crunchy cannoli. Then have a coffee and an after dinner liqueur to finish off the perfect meal.

Home Resto-Lounge is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, and late-night drinks and lounging. Call now to reserve your private party and leave the rest to the experts. The caliber of the food is top notch, yet the atmosphere is unpretentious and casual, so feel free to come for dinner after work or shopping on Steinway Street. Whether you stop in for a drink and some appetizers with friends, or a full, family dinner, you’ll realize there’s no place like Home Resto-Lounge.
