This week’s article takes us out of the restaurants and into a very special wine shop. Wine Stop is “a wine and spirits shop out of the ordinary”, says their business card. Indeed, Wine Stop is the warmest, friendliest, prettiest wine and spirits shop I’ve seen in Astoria.

Hour Children Builds Community

Hour Children, a nonprofit based in Queens, dedicated to transforming the lives of female offenders and their children, provides services to female prison inmates to help them bond or stay bonded with their children and then help them transition into the community when they are released.

Take A Walk To The Veterans Memorial

On a lovely autumn day, why not take a walk over to Astoria Park’s Long Island City War Memorial? Veterans Day is almost here, and the Astoria monument is an impressive 20 feet wide by 10 feet high, hewn of granite (quarried in Concord, Massachusetts).

Nestled right underneath the RFK Bridge in Astoria Park lies the Astoria Park Skatepark. A skate park in Astoria Park was talked about since 2005, but gained full steam in July 2007, using land that was previously occupied by construction trailers.
